In the January Co-Operator, the newspaper of the East End Food Co-Op, there is an article entitled, “The Art of Eating” (page two of the online version) where kids in the Lighthouse program came to the EEFC to try new foods. According to the article, “Lighthouse has integrated the subjects of media arts and urban gardening into their growing after school curriculum.”, which is exactly the kind of program that can help solve the food desert problem in Pittsburgh.
